February 26, 2006 Four years jail for groping woman's bottom by Gulliver
A cheeky bicycle courier in Columbia landed himself in jail
for four years for groping a woman pedestrian's bottom, a
TV station reported.
A judge slapped the courier with the four-year sentence after
ruling that he had committed an abusive sexual act.
The sentence was criticised by some legal eagles as being
too harsh.
Victim of the courier's unwanted attentions Diana Marcela
Diaz told RNC that he had cycled off after grabbing her, but
had been caught by passers-by.
When the offender was arrested, she was given the choice of
slapping him, letting him go, or filing a complaint.
She chose to set a precedent that would to a stop to sexist
behavior, she told the TV station.
The station described the sentence as historic. But it has
been attacked by some lawyers as excessive.
A female member of the national ombudsman's office said the
courier had only acted out of lust. He didn't use violence
or commit a sexual act, she added.
The offender is now left counting the high cost of his moment
of lust - loss of his freedom and four years in jail.
A black swan dumped by her lover has been reunited
with her old flame - a giant pedal boat in the shape of a white swan she
had been pining for all winter.
Petra made headlines all around the world in 2006 when she grew so fond
of the plastic boat she could not bear to be parted from it.
The romance between the odd couple blossomed after German zoo officials
in the town of Muenster released Petra on a local lake next to the boat.
She became so besotted with her pedal boat love that she refused to leave
its side, even refusing to mingle with the other swans.
