Swan looks for love on Facebook by Gulliver
A broken-hearted swam who lost his mate has turned to the
internet in his quest for new love.
Rex lost the love of his life Rexanne when she was tragically
killed by a Fox.
The lovelorn black-necked swan has turned to the social networking
site Facebook in an effort to find a new partner.
He has his own Facebook entry in the hope it will get him
back in the mating game.
Staff at his home at the Trevano Garden in Cornwall, England,
came up with the novel idea after they saw his hearbreak following
his "wife" Rexanne's death.
They set up the Rex The Black-necked Swan Is Looking For Love
group on Facebook.
They even commissioned a cartoon to help publicise Rex's search
for love.
Trevano Garden staff said while the Facebook entry started
"as a little bit of a joke", finding Rex a partner
was a serious issue.
Rex came to Trevano Garden with "wife" Rexanne,
and when she died he became unhappy, taking out his frustation
on neighboring ducks.
Finding another partner hasn't been easy. Staff tried dealers
but found that black-necked swams tended to be available only
in pairs.
Rex's Facebook search is not proving very fruitful either,
so far he hasn't found his perfect match. But it's early days
yet.
Staff point out he's still a "young boy" who is
anxious to move on with his life and they are hoping he will
find love again.
A black swan dumped by her lover has been reunited
with her old flame - a giant pedal boat in the shape of a white swan she
had been pining for all winter.
Petra made headlines all around the world in 2006 when she grew so fond
of the plastic boat she could not bear to be parted from it.
The romance between the odd couple blossomed after German zoo officials
in the town of Muenster released Petra on a local lake next to the boat.
She became so besotted with her pedal boat love that she refused to leave
its side, even refusing to mingle with the other swans.
